Bio
I help people unearth their unique story and transform it into powerful branding and marketing tools — creating a framework for them to carry out their good work with confidence and ease.
I help them establish and clarify the foundational elements that make up their story — their purpose, values, goals and who they most want to serve — as an essential first step to any design project. I help them identify overlooked opportunities, let their strengths shine and even use their challenges as a source of inspiration for new services, products and messaging.
I believe if businesses realized how much easier decisions would be if these foundational elements were intact, they would wonder why they waited so long or resisted it. This essential discovery process is challenging but fun, because as truths emerge, enthusiasm and relief emerges as well.
For over 20 years, I've helped small businesses and nonprofit and governmental organizations craft compelling identity and marketing tools to further their purpose.
I'm tenacious about delivering a service reflective of your investment and I'm happy when I see people and businesses get unstuck, have ah-ha moments and enjoy the process of seeing their work in its best light.
And as a partner and creative director for Goodbookery, LLC, I'm helping would-be writers tell their stories in collaborative book form.

Background story
Though I came from intelligent, well-read, scientist parents, I never felt smart enough to pursue an academic career. It took years to finally appreciate that design required not just creativity, but business savvy, writing skills, intuition, curiosity and much more.
Exposed to much turmoil from a young age, I honed the skills of reading and trying to understand situations, seeing what wasn’t being said and trying to get at the truth. As is usually the case, our struggles become our greatest gifts.
My own pursuit of understanding and transformation gave me the skills to tease out what’s important and real about people, businesses and organizations. And to foster the confidence it takes to tell only the story that matters to the people who matter most.
A client had this to say after a business visioning session:
“You went above and beyond and I feel really good about where things are headed. I had a great day, and it was fantastic to have you around! You brought a great energy and I'm excited you are part of this now. The potential for tremendous things to happen, perhaps things beyond what can be expected, is very good. Thanks for the hard work.”
Where do I get the energy this client is talking about? Most likely vegetables — grown, found at the farmers market, drawn, photographed, sautéed, broiled, grilled, stolen, if it came to that. About the only thing I care about more than doing a good job is eating something green every day.
I've served on a professional design board, been a regular volunteer, planned major events, taught design, spoken in front of large groups, even demonstrated cooking techniques at the farmers market. My engagement in the community and desire to be a part of making good things happen helps me help you.
